QUESTIONS

How should roommates split rent fairly?
The three common methods are: split evenly, split in proportion to each bedroom's square footage, or split in proportion to each person's income. Room size is the most common tiebreaker when bedrooms differ noticeably; income-based splitting is used when housemates earn very differently and agree to it.
Is it fair to charge more for a bigger bedroom?
It is a widely used convention. Splitting by room size charges each person in proportion to the private space they get, while shared space stays split evenly. This calculator uses that method for the room-size option.
Is this rent split calculator free?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, needs no account, and nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
